Airport and Transportation
Crete International Airport "Ioannis Daskalogiannis" is located near Souda Bay on the peninsula of Akrotiri only 15km from Chania. It's one of two airports on the Island of Crete, the other being the busiest which is Heraklion. The airport is open twelve months and during December and March is open for domestic flights to Athens and Thessaloniki. The airport was renovated in 2017 and has many facilities on offer for its passengers.
There are several ways to get from the airport. There is a public bus service that runs between the city of Chania and the airport however, the most convenient way to travel to your Chania hotel is via taxi. Taxis are located outside of the airport and generally work with a metre system. An alternative way to travel from the airport and to make your holiday more independent is to hire a car. Chania airport car hire offices are located in the arrival's hall however, we would highly recommend that you pre book your cars in advance to avoid disappointment.
Weather in Crete
Crete weather boasts a Mediterranean Climate with hot and dry summers and mild winters with plenty of rain in the winter. The best time to visit is late spring into early summer and autumn when the weather is pleasant but not too hot. For those of you that love the hot sun then the best time to visit is July and August.
